Apple Applies for More Beats Stations

Apple Applies for More Beats StationsAfter the transition from Beats Music to Apple Music, the company is adding more Beats stations.

Last year, Apple rolled out Beats Music to iOS, the company's paid music streaming service. However, as of last month, Apple decided to make some structural changes to its services. "Beats Music ended on November 30," explained Apple on a support page, "your subscription will be cancelled, but you can still move your picks and preferences over to Apple Music right now." Even though Beats Music is no more, the company still preserved its streaming service and its station, "Beats 1." But this station may soon be getting some company, as Apple has filed for trademarks for four more stations.

According to website Consomac, Apple has filed a trademark application for Beats 2, Beats 3, Beats 4, and Beats 5, along with associated logos that correspond to that of the existing Beats 1 streaming station. Many analysts are suspecting that the company may be on the verge of competing with other premium radio services, by offering a larger variety of genres of stations, or stations in multiple languages, for example. Legally, Apple does not need to renegotiate terms with its partnered labels for these new stations, so the company is in a good spot to continue to flesh out its radio services and offerings. Currently, users from over 100 countries can tune in to Beats 1 for the same price as Spotify.
