Download Offline Maps in Google Maps


Google Maps is one of the most reliable apps to get you where you want to go. It give you access to all the information you require to move from one place to another, such as accurate maps, driving directions with real-time traffic update and route suggestions, information about the public transit modes (bus, train...), and schedules. Furthermore, it allows you to download specific areas for an offline use through its Offline areas feature. 

What Features Are Available in Google Maps Offline Areas

Offline areas will prove real handy when one is experiencing a poor or no internet connectivity. You can search for specific locations and get driving directions but without traffic updates (traffic info or alternate routes) within any of your offline areas. 

How To Add Offline Areas to Google Maps

Open the Google Maps app and navigate to the desired area or location. Once done, tap on theMenu button to open the navigation drawer and then select Offline areas
Tap on the + button and then select (2 finger pinch gestures) the portion of the map you want download. Google Maps will give you a preview (in real-time) of how much storage space will be needed for the offline map: 
Tap on Download, select a name for the new offline area and then tap on Save to resume your activities: 
As for the download, it is performed in the background and only when your smartphone is connected to Wi-Fi. Tap on Menu > Offline areas to view the download progress or downloaded maps: 
Tip: If you are planning a trip abroad and want to limit extra costs related to mobile data roaming, simply download the maps for the places you intend to visit beforehand.
