I actually read about his story based on real events ..a film that had shooting in hard conditions because they filmed the movie in the mountains and forests in Canada and Argentina, where nature and the harsh climate difficult to -30° ..This film photography was adopted in the natural light to be more realistic and convincing ... Also I read about the sacrifices made by Leonardo DiCaprio, who said that this film was the most difficult in his career .. ..nam frozen water in the bodies of real animals ..
The film revolves around the story of apparent revenge: in 1823 the hunter being attacked by a bear. The companion (Tom Hardy) killed his son and left him to die in the icy wilderness. But he escaped and goes on a journey of 320 kilometers to search for Revenge.
But the film, despite his cruelty is not without emotional side, which boils down to the father and son relationship that killed his wife. The hero is haunted by memories and escape from the idea that he can not have all the beautiful things forever.

It is true that does not suit all tastes ..maybe it seem more brutal than it should, and frequently in some scenes but for me it's one of the finest and boldest films I ever saw.
