The rest of the year belongs to all the Robert Downeys and the Tom Cruises of the movie industry. But come fall, and the monsters take over that ‘star’ role. Who honestly wants an Iron Man when you can enjoy watching a Godzilla or a Frankenstein’s monster? These nasty, spooky guys sure land up on our list of some of the most epic monsters we’ve ever seen, alongside some really modern ones as well. And by the way, we’re not really talking about the extraterrestrials or the ghosts – we are more into the real deal, the good old-fashioned movie monsters. These man-made monsters include some really big worms that live underground and strange underwater creatures. Check out our list of 10 epic monster movies that you should definitely watch this Halloween!
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
If you are planning to host a movie party that has really old-school monsters, you should probably add this one to your list. A story revolving around a prehistoric monster who lurks around in the dense forest, along with a small group of (crazy?!) scientists who wish to capture the monster to ‘study’ it, this movie would definitely scare you. The spookiest part of all this? People who love taking credit for things that are not really theirs!
THE DESCENT
If you are claustrophobic, this isn’t the right movie for you – trust me! The Descent is the story of a group of women who decide to go spelunking, where they find some bizarre underground monsters that are lurking around in the darkness and really constrained spaces. This modern horror epic will surely leave you stunned and gasping for some space.
THE THING
In this 80s classic, Kurt Russell starred in a movie where a strange creature starts attacking a group of scientists in remote parts of Antarctica – one at a time. The spookiest part of the movie is that the creature can take the appearance of its victim! The movie is a great one to add to your list for the Halloween movie party.
THE SHAPE OF WATER
The movie that won the 2018 Oscars for best motion picture, this Guillermo del Toro’s movie is a perfect homage to older classics such as Creature From The Black Lagoon. The plot of this movie revolves around how a janitor at an underground facility falls in love with a strange underground creature that is being held at the facility.
GODZILLA
Godzilla franchise has seen over thirty movies being made, and yet the movie keeps entertaining us with a unique twist on this epic monster. You can start your way from 1954 classic and watch all the movies up to the recent addition to the franchise, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The recent version stars none other than Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, who seems to have quite a liking for fighting monsters who are trying to bring an end to this world!
THE MIST
Stephen King’s novels are truly spellbound, and this movie based on his work is no different. The story is set in a small town of Bridgton, where monsters come out of the mist after every thunderstorm. If you get spooked by horrifying creatures easily, but love them nonetheless, this one has got you covered!
KING KONG
Much like the Godzilla franchise, this one also spans decades and each movie is truly worth a watch. Right from 1933 to the latest flick that was released in 2017, try watching all this Halloween. This monster has not only managed to terrify audiences, but also charmed them!
TREMORS
An epic 1990s movie, Tremors is sure to make your Halloween a spooky one. Having both Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntire, the story is set in a village called Perfection, where people are sucked into the ground all of a sudden! The easiest explanation for this bizarre phenomenon is an earthquake, but none of the seismologists are able to make any sense out of the whole occurrence. Well, maybe they should try asking those gigantic worm monsters that creep underground!
JAWS
As quite rightly said by someone, the worst monsters are usually the real-life ones. Well, this movie drives home this point when a group of people tries to capture a crazy killer shark in this Steven Spielberg epic. The movie was not only a revolutionary in the way monster movies were made, but also made people fear the sharks even more!
FRANKENSTEIN
You cannot talk about Halloween movies and skip this Tinseltown magic! Based on a novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein is a movie that revolves around Dr. Henry Frankenstein who creates a unique life form using his bizarre devices. Well, things go out of hands when Frankenstein’s creation ends up being not some human, but a monster! Check out this masterpiece this Halloween and you’ll be left spooked for sure.
