Fortnite Chapter 2 Leaker Sued by Epic Games

Fortnite Chapter 2 Leaker Sued by Epic Games

Epic Games is suing a UX tester for leaking details for Fortnite

Chapter 2 ahead of its official release, according to new court documents.
As reported by Polygon, in a lawsuit filed to North Carolina courts Epic Games is accusing Ronald Sykes, or @inviiblellama9, or leaking information about Fortnite Chapter 2. In a court document, Epic says that the company is, “suing Sykes because he broke his contractual obligation to keep Epic’s secrets about the upcoming season of Fortnite, Epic’s popular video game.”

Epic claims that information “is currency,” and that Sykes “cashed in on what he learned as a User Experience tester for Epic.” The company is asking for injunctive relief and maximum damages for the leaks and breach of a non-disclosure agreement, along with legal fees.

In a timeline of the events, Epic says that Sykes was invited to be a UX tester for Fortnite Chapter 2 on September 21, 2019, when he also signed an NDA. Three days later in a deleted tweet, one of Sykes’ Twitter accounts @snipa_king2K was seen tweeting at another user “dm I played S11 and can tell you the new stuff.”

In another account Epic believes is tied to Sykes, @xDriFtZz revealed that “you can swim” in season 11, which is one of the big new features of the new Fortnite Chapter 2 map.

Epic has taken Fortnite leakers and cheaters to court before. In 2018 Epic sued a QA contractor for leaking details about season 3, and Epic has filed lawsuits against multiple cheaters, including teenagers.

While Epic is suing a UX tester for leaking Fortnite Chapter 2, it wasn’t the only source of leaks leading up to Epic’s big map relaunch. Although Epic publicized Chapter 2 with in-game hints and a mysterious black hole event, word of Chapter 2 was also leaked by a glitch in the Italian Apple App Store
