A cluttered desktop can affect your productivity in many ways, but most importantly, it makes it harder to focus your current tasks. If you ever find yourself a situation where icons (app shortcuts, documents, and folders) are piling up over each other on your desktop and that you are too busy to clean it up, please try this quick fix.

Go to Applications Terminal and run the 
defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop false
command. 

Next, use the 
killall Finder
 command to restart the Finder. Close the terminal and head back your desktop.

To get the desktop icons back, open a Terminal and run the 
defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true
 command, followed by 
killall Finder
.
