Fans were out in force for the first day of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Thousands arrived at arenas, swimming pools, waterfronts and roads in the Brazilian city to watch the various sports kick off, after a glittering opening ceremony last night.
Britain's first gold medal hopeful Chris Froome began the cycling road race this afternoon, as other events including archery, handball, rowing and water polo got the ball rolling for the tournament.
