Olympic officials are to check bikes for tiny motors hidden inside frames for the first time at a Games. They will check bikes used in road race and time trial events using thermal cameras and X-rays.
It comes after 19-year-old Belgian rider Femke van den Driessche was found using a motor at a cyclo-cross world championship event in January and banned for six years. She denied cheating, claiming she accidentally picked up a friend's bike which was identical.

Officials from the International Cycling Union (UCI) said thermal cameras and computer software would be used during the Games to search for illegal motors that can be hidden inside the hollow part of the seat tube of bicycle frames.
Batteries can be hidden behind the seat. 'We will continue to test bikes extensively, including at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,' UCI president Brian Cookson. Testers use sensors which can pick up magnetic signals and heat emitted from small motors that can give racers an extra boost.
Similar checks have been carried out at cycling events throughout this year, including at the Tour de France. At the Tour de France last month, 3,773 tests were conducted with no motors found. The emergence of the tiny motors is the latest cheating scandal to hit the sport of cycling, following widespread doping which has tainted its reputation.

Ginny Thrasher, 19, has ushered in the gold for Team USA in an upset that saw two Chinese competitors take silver and bronze in the women's 10-metre air rifle event.
The teenager from Springfield, Virginia, defeated Du Li and Yi Siling with a total score of 208.0, setting an Olympic record in the finals.
Thrasher, who wanted to become an Olympic figure skater when she was a kid, fired her first gun just five years ago during a hunting excursion with her grandfather.
Thrasher emerged from the pack of 50 women in the qualifying round with seven other competitors in the finals.
Athletes stand 10 meters from from the target and attempt to hit the bullseye in order to receive a maximum score of 10.9, which Thrasher received early on in the finals.
She eventually beat out the Chinese shooting veteran Du Li.
