A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in Valley Center, according to Cal Fire. The blaze around Cole Grade Road and Miller Lane is threatening homes in the rural area and is prompting evacuations.
The fire is now over 10 acres and is burning in an area with a lot of natural fuels. The fire is moving at a moderate rate. It's 0% contained.
Thomas Shoots with Cal Fire says the winds are coming from the east and pushing the fire to the west. This fire comes after another that broke out in Ramona early this morning. The Ramona fire has impacted over 90 acres and is about 15% contained.
An evacuation center for residents displaced by that brush fire in the area of Cole Grade Road and Miller Lane in Valley Center has been established at the Community Center at 28246 Lilac Road in Valley Center.
Shoots says wind conditions are a little calmer around Valley Center than in other areas of the county.
"But, if it's still burning pretty good, and we will have a huge challenge in front of us," Shoots said. He says Cal Fire isn't strapped for resources yet.
"If this thing gets up and moving it will definitely be a resource situation for us," he said. Shoots says officials have been using SDG&E helicopters, in addition to their own.
